We’re looking for a Technical Supervisor, someone who’s ready to grow with our company. In this position you will provide effective guidance and operation of the assigned technical section of the Laboratory in compliance with Departmental and Institutional goals. To coordinate technical procedures to ensure that high quality laboratory services and testing is provided to research customers in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Required bachelor's degree in science

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Collaborates on the performance of routine and complex procedures. Troubleshoots equipment and method performance issues and implements appropriate correction actions. Collaborates on the performance of routine and complex procedures. In conjunction with the Laboratory manager, develops new methodologies and procedures; coordinate the performance of method evaluations to include technical performance ease of use/performance, quality control, maintenance; collate evaluation data for review; make recommendation for implementation.

Oversees the quality control programs, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting. In conjunction with the manager performs instrument evaluations, method evaluations, and documentation of specimens. Maintains and revises manuals; write technical procedures. Work with the manager (Quality Assurance/Accreditation) to ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, JCAHO, HIPAA), maintain responses to checklist questions; periodically review changes to the JCAHO checklists to ensure compliance.

Coordinates/supports continuing education programs. Coordinates and facilitates continuing education events for the staff. Assists in defining the need (level of complexity and decision making required) for and helps develop process flow diagrams and quick reference cards to assist staff in maintaining quality and compliance with policies & procedures. Documents staff participation and outcomes from all training and competency assessment. Follows up on training and competency failures and evidence effective remediation. Completes standard annual competency assessment per plan.

Assists Core Lab Manager with financial operations. Maintains cost analysis data for the technical section and tests; performs annual review of cost accounting data and makes changes as needed. Prepares justification for new instrumentation.

Coordinates the staffing schedule to ensure the efficient operations of the lab by appropriately allocating the staff to meet the lab’s patient care demands. Ensures time off, specialized testing, training, and all other activities are reported on the departmental calendar. Supervises procedures to ensure efficient and effective operation of the lab and helps staff improve their personal productivity; finds ways to improve overall productivity. Works with leadership team to develop and continually monitor the long term planning for the Lab to determine resources and training needed to fulfill plans. Coordinates patient care needs across multidisciplinary lines and works to improve patient flow, information coordination, and patient care through departmental and interdepartmental communication and PI projects. The role requires the PDL Manager to help identify areas of opportunity (patient care, patient flow and departmental) and take the lead in coordinating a team to address these needs. Addresses the operational needs of the lab daily with strict adherence to the amount allowed by the budget. Any variance in budget must be reported to department leadership in a Timely manner monthly. Assists with hiring/termination decisions by working closely with other department leadership to solicit input and feedback related to staff performance and potential hiring decisions. Takes the lead on any incident within the lab that could have or did lead to staff, patient, or patient family injury. In collaboration with other leadership and Lab staff, facilitates goal setting and initiatives development plan, provides performance feedback and ongoing performance recognition and coaching and identifies opportunities for staff performance.
