We are searching for a Clinical Ambulatory Services Representative II  - an ASR/MA (TCH position) in a dual role to support the establishment of the Bridge Clinic in the Mark Wallace Tower. This unique role involves scheduling, rooming, and providing medical assistant support to patients during outpatient visits. As we aim to deliver collaborative and timely care in partnership between psychology and psychiatry, having a professional in this dual capacity is essential to ensure the efficient coordination of appointments, scheduling with the appropriate provider(s), ensuring appropriate consents have been completed, and obtaining vital signs at the time of the appointment.

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant required in one of the following certifications: 
    • CCMA - Cert-Cert Clinical MA - CCMA National Health Career Association (NHA)
    • CMA-AAM - Cert-Cert Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • CMA-C - Clinical Medical Assistant Certification American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)
    • EMT - Emergency Medical Techn Texas Department of State Health Services 
    • EMT-A - Advanced EMT Texas Department of State Health Services 
    • EMT-B - Emergency Medical Techn-Basic Texas Department of State Health Services 
    • EMT-I - Emergency Medical Techn-Interm Texas Department of State Health Services
    • EMT-P - Emergency Medical Techn-Parame Texas Department of State Health Services 
    • LIC PAR - Lic-Paramedic Texas Department of State Health Services 
    • NCMA - National Cert Med Assistant National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) 
    • NRCMA - Nat Reg Cert Med Assistant National Association of Health Professionals (NAHP) 
    • RMA - Registered Medical Assistant American Association of Medical Personnel, American Allied Health, American Medical Technologists, or American Registry of Medical Assistants
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2-years’ experience in a clinical setting required
  • Healthcare and/or Pediatric experience preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred

Responsibilities

  • Vital Signs Monitoring: MAs regularly measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse rate, temperature, and respiratory rate. Monitoring these vital signs is important in assessing the overall health and well-being of psychiatric patients and indicated due to side effects of many psychotropic medications.
  • Patient Rooming: MAs assist in preparing patients for their appointments by escorting them to examination rooms, ensuring their comfort, and obtaining initial information about their medical history.
  • Documentation: Accurate and detailed documentation is crucial in psychiatric care. MAs often assist in maintaining patient records, entering information into electronic health records (EHRs), and ensuring that all relevant data is recorded.
  • Patient Education: MAs may provide basic information to psychiatric patients about their treatment plans, medications, and any instructions given by the healthcare provider. This can contribute to better patient understanding and adherence to treatment.
  • Collaboration with Providers: MAs work closely with psychiatrists and psychologists to help convey important information about the patient's condition, gather preliminary data, and ensure smooth communication between the patient and the healthcare provider.
  • Support during Crisis Intervention: In the event of a crisis or emergency situation, MAs may assist in ensuring the safety of psychiatric patients. This may involve following established protocols, alerting the appropriate personnel, acting as sitters, and providing initial support.
