The primary responsibility of the Security Officer CSO is to provide a safe and secure environment during the shift within the boundaries of the assigned position and/or post. The officer will assist the general public, staff or patients in all matters of safety and security. The security officer patrols an assigned area and/or facility. The Security Officer CSO stands a post as instructed and serves as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions; detects suspicious activities; watches for criminal acts or client/parent rule infractions and addressed them appropriately. This position may respond to all incidents by providing assistance as needed, protecting personnel and property within reason and securing the incident scene until properly relieved. This position conducts initial investigation of incidents, and is responsible for documenting incident details and completing all appropriate reports and forms as necessary.

Qualifications

•   High school diploma or GED required
•   Licenses/Certifications: 
o   LCSO - Commissioned Security Office within 90 days of entering position
o   CHSO - Basic HC Security Officer within 180 days of entering position 
o   TDR - Texas Driver's License within 90 days of entering position 
o   BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support
•   Physical fitness test required
•   1 year experience in security, law enforcement, or military required
•   A Bachelor's degree may substitute for the 1 year of required Security, law enforcement, or military experience
 

Responsibilities


•   Provide security functions at designated post locations
•   Patrol the Hospital(s) and/or Texas Children’s Community Locations
•   Monitor traffic and parking in designated areas
•   Operate Texas Children’s Hospital vehicles and other assigned duties
•   Respond to emergency situations
•   Attend and complete hospital and departmental required training
•   Periodically foot patrol specific buildings assigned, observing visitors, patient, and staff for compliance to the organization’s rules and protocol
•   Report any hazardous conditions and suspicious activity to the supervisor and dispatch, using radio and other means of communication according to established departmental procedures
•   Ensure that all emergency vehicles have ready access to Emergency Center dock for offloading of patients and provide assistance with helistop patient transport to inpatient areas
•   Operate and maintain TCH and departmental equipment and supplies
•   May respond in the case of an emergency and use AED, or assist in providing basic life support, and utilize Personal Protective Equipment
