We are searching for a Coding Team Leader-- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide support to the Manager of Coding & Quality Assurance. You will assist with follow-up on processes assigned, ensure continuity of coded accounts and monitor accuracy to ensure accounts do not exceed acceptable Bill Hold and AR days. This role also ensures the hospital is coding according to government regulations and coding guidelines.

Responsibilities :

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required for all employees unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, CCS-P certification from the American Health Information Management Association, or CPC or CPC-A certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders required
  • COC or CIPC certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders required
  • 5 years coding experience required
  • Experience in a large hospital setting preferred


  • Supervises, ensures competencies, and evaluates the activities of assigned staff
  • Completes off-orientation paperwork and provides feedback on annual performance reviews, ensuring objectivity and consistency of the evaluations and development plans
  • Communicates with the coding team to determine which accounts are lacking documentation
  • Analyzes and assesses accounts for high dollar balances and makes prudent decisions to efficiently code pending accounts
  • Conducts quality reviews and provide education to the staff as needed
  • Escalates and reports denial trends to Manager and if there is strong supporting argument that it should be escalated proved supporting research for reporting to or sent to an appropriate authority for resolution
  • Maintains bill hold to ensure the pending accounts that need to be coded are at or below a specified departmental targets and goals
  • Actively participates in special assignments, programs, or improvement initiatives with successful outcomes
  • Assists Trainer with training new employees on how to use work queues and work accounts in the encoder
