We're searching for a Supervisor of Coding Compliance, someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will support the Manager of Coding & Quality Assurance. Assist with follow-up on processes assigned, ensure continuity of coded accounts and monitor accuracy to ensure accounts do not exceed acceptable Bill Hold and AR days. Ensure that Texas Children's is coding according to government regulations and coding guidelines. Assist the Coding Technicians with the implementation and training of any new and existing software applications. Reviews coding denials and provides education to the Coding Technicians when appropriate. Work closely with Business Services, Admissions, Billing, Medical Records, Care Management, and healthcare providers to retrieve information supporting coding. Assist with special projects as assigned for management.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Supervises, ensures competencies, and evaluates the activities of assigned staff.
• Conducts daily and weekly analysis of reports, which assess the department's performance and identify corrective action plans were required (stats, productivity, quality, staff churn/turnover and attendance).
• Distributes workloads and queues and adjusts staff allocation to ensure the agreed service levels are met.
• Participates in interviewing and evaluating applicants and makes hiring recommendations as requested by leader.
• Completes off-orientation paperwork and provides feedback on annual performance reviews, ensuring objectivity and consistency of the evaluations and development plans.
• Performs staff coaching and counseling as required.
• Assesses competency of staff and identifies training needs to ensure staff can demonstrate required skills to complete staff assignments effectively.
• Ensures appropriate staffing levels by determining requirements for daily coverage, developing, and posting work schedules and making appropriate decisions regarding PTO requests to ensure adequate vacancy coverage to meet operational needs.
• Ensures timely and effective two-way communication of strategic and operational messages to teams.
• Funnels information between staff and leadership regarding workplace issues, resource needs, incidents, and departmental/organizational events by conducting regular staff meetings, one-on-one conferences, and education.
• Performs edits in API system (enters missed punches when appropriate, enters PTO and EIB hours).
• Monitors API system to ensure adherence to punctuality and attendance expectations in strict accordance with Hospital and departmental policies and procedures as measured by API reports and other performance and productivity metrics. Reports tardiest and missed punches to Management.
• Initiates timely contact with providers to be able to code outstanding accounts.
• Conducts quality reviews and provides education to the staff as needed.
• Maintains Bill Hold by following established Departmental Policy & Procedures, Workflow, and Departmental Goals.
• Actively participates in special assignments, programs, or improvement initiatives with successful outcomes.
• Assists in training new employees on how to use work queues and work accounts in the encoder.
Skills & Requirements
• Required H.S. Diploma or equivalent, preferred bachelor’s degree
• Required Certifications (one of the following):
o RHIA - Cert-Reg Health Inform. Admins by the American Health Information Management Association
o RHIT - Cert-Reg Health Inform. TECH by the American Health Information Management Association
o CCS - Cert-Cert Coding Specialist by the American Health Information Management Association
o CCA - Certified Coding Associate American Health Information Management Association
o CCS-P - Cert-CCS-P Physician Based by the American Health Information Management Association
o CPC - Cert-Cert Professional Coder by the American Academy of Professional Coders
o CPC-A - Cert Prof Coder - Apprentice by the American Academy of Professional Coders
o COC - Certified Outpatient Coder by the American Academy of Professional Coders
o CIPC - Certified Inpatient Coder by the American Academy of Professional Coders
• Required 5 years coding experience with preferred experience in a large hospital setting
