We’re looking for a Lieutenant Security Officer, someone who’s ready to grow with our company. In this position you will lead, motivate, train, and supervise security teams in protecting the staff, patients, visitors and assets of hospital. Support hospital by providing a visible supervisory responsibility in planning, organizing, directing and supervising the work performed by subordinate personnel. Provides day-to-day supervision of department operations at assigned locations and conducts routine inspections of personnel protection equipment and department authorized firearms and document as needed. To efficiently handle customer inquiries, requests for assistance and ensure smooth traffic flow. To provide support to the Security Operations Manager and security department by providing input and recommendations to improve daily operations and policies and procedures. Performs patrol duties, covers shift, provides breaks to Officer on POSTs when necessary and takes decisive actions during shift operations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assists in conducting Basic Training, Department Training and In-Service Training as needed.  
  • Assigns available personnel in an efficient manner, ensuring minimum staffing levels are achieved in accordance with departmental guidance.  
  • Ensures that the Security Services’ primary responsibilities of securing designated posts, actively patrolling the hospital campus, and facilitating smooth traffic flow are carried out in a professional manner and customer service-oriented fashion.
  • Assists with Pedestrian Assistance post as requested or scheduled to ensure that post is staffed at all times.
  • Ensures that all equipment; to include radios and keys are functional at the beginning of shift and during all shifts and reports any variances to management.  
  • Responsible for maintaining and consistently reviewing/updating the staffing calendar to ensure that minimum security coverage is met at all times.
  • Escalates any requests for additional, overtime, or gap coverage to operations manager on a proactive basis to allow for the appropriate scheduling of resources.
  • Proactively communicates with all shift supervisors across all shifts, and requests assistance with coverage well enough in advance to allow for scheduling and to ensure that all minimum staffing requirements are maintained.
  • Observes and reports on all conditions inside and outside of the Hospital for potential threats to the safety of patients, visitors, employees and medical staff.  
  • Supervises, trains and evaluates Sergeants, commissioned officers, security officers, on an assigned shift
  • Promotes customer and public relations as a priority through a professional appearance and demeanor in the execution of responsibilities.
  • Safely operates and maintains Texas Children’s Hospital owned vehicles as directed by departmental procedures.
  • Responds to emergencies situation and may use the AED, or assist in providing basic life support, and or utilize Personal Protective Equipment
  • Attends and completes hospital and departmental required training. Successfully completes all necessary exams for initial and ongoing certifications.

 

Skills & Requirements

  • Required H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Preferred associate's degree
  • Required LCSO - Commissioned Security Officer Texas Department of Public Safety - Private Security Board, acquired within 90 days of entering the role
  • Required CAHSO - Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS), acquired within 90 days of entering the role.
  • Required TDR - Texas Driver's License State of Texas, acquired within 90 days of entering the role
  • Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check demonstrating a clear driving record as defined by the routine driver qualifications outlined in the Texas Children's Fleet Safety Policy and Procedure by the job entry date. Must also maintain a clear driving record
  • Must pass a Physical Fitness Test performed by Texas Children's Employee Health Services and/or an affiliate by the job entry date
  • Preferred Firearms qualification - State of Texas
  • Preferred BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support American Heart Association; Within 90 days of entering the role
  • Required 4 years of Security, law enforcement, or military experience
  • A bachelor's degree may substitute for 2 years of the required security, law enforcement, or military experience
