We are searching for a Diabetes Education Quality Coordinator -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will be responsible for the promotion and improvement of diabetes education standards by continuously evaluating diabetes self-management education (DSME) services provided at all sites in the Texas Children's system. This position will require collaboration with operational leaders, nursing and physician stakeholders to maintain ADA accreditation status and  oversee the advancement of diabetes educator practice.

Qualifications:

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
  • Required BS Degree. Preferred Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Education, Health Care Administration, Nursing
  • 5 years experience in diabetes care and education, preferred 2 years of pediatrics experience
  • CDCES certification or BC-ADM Advanced Diabetes Management issued by the Certification Board of Diabetes Care and Education REQUIRED.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures quality DSME services in all accredited areas. Ensures high-quality diabetes care and education practice throughout the Texas Children’s system. Identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care practices by actively collaborating with the Food and Nutrition, Diabetes Care Process, and Maternal Fetal Medicine teams to identify opportunities for expanded and improved clinical practice.
  • Uses clinical expertise and needs assessment tools to ensure best practice. Serves as an educational and clinical resource for the Diabetes Education Specialist team. Assesses and develops clinical competence of staff and areas of developmental need. Ensures annual compliance with regulatory and critical education. Evaluates and integrate evidence into practice.
  • Provides effective model for training new employees and developing preceptors. Assesses, plans, and evaluates unit-based orientation. Oversees the orientation process for new hires in clinical areas. Develops preceptor skills within clinical staff in collaboration with manager. Communicates orientee’s progress toward competency development with manager. Maintains evidence-based orientation pathways and training tools based on learning needs assessment.
  • Ensure ongoing staff development. Participates in professional development of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist professionals and students. Evaluates learning needs of staff based on provider feedback, changes in technology/practice, and learning needs assessments. Organizes and communicates education and training events with diabetes educators and leadership to ensure compliance and proper documentation in the employee records.
  • Maintain ADA Accreditation Status. Completes the recognition annual status report on time.
  • Seeks opportunities to enhance or expand DSMES services. Serves as change agent, evaluating diabetes-related research, benchmarking across like organizations and participating in organizational initiatives to identify and expand the role of diabetes care and education in clinical practice.
