Texas Children’s Hospital has an opening for a Motion Lab Biomechanist position in The Woodlands, TX.
Duties Include:
- Assists in monitoring and assuring proper configuration, integration, and operation of all computer systems, data collection equipment, and associated peripheral devices in the motion analysis lab.
- Performs routine quality control checks to ensure that equipment is in safe working condition for patient studies.
- Assists in maintaining a clean lab and cleaning of equipment after patient use.
- Maintains a backup of all files, and assists in restoring data in the event of a loss.
- Evaluates measurement system accuracy on a routine basis with recommendations and modification for improvements as needed.
- Assists with digital conversion protocols and maintains video archives.
- Participates in the development and implementation of clinical and research protocols.
- Works in collaboration with motion analysis staff to collect motion capture data on clinical and research patients.
- Assists in research activities including research design, data collection, data analysis, and scientific writing.
- Monitors data and protocols for accuracy, reliability and appropriateness.
- Prepares and participates in movement analysis testing.
- Sets up laboratory equipment prior to patient evaluations and research projects.
- Performs accurate marker placement, anthropometric measurements and electrode placements. Should be able to resolve data artifact issues.
- Coordinate and perform age-specific patient and research data collection.
- Interacts professionally with patients and families, while coordinating aspects of data collection in order to efficiently and accurately completing the tests in a minimum amount of time and discomfort for the patient.
- Prepare preliminary results and reports and deliver to the appropriate provider for final interpretation and report.
- Provides educational services, training and support to meet the needs of the department.
- Assists in providing education and training in the use of new equipment and in the maintenance and safe use of departmental equipment
- Assists in providing education and training and ongoing assistance on computer use and software applications.
- Seeks opportunities to share knowledge and skills with key stakeholders.
- Assist MAL staff and physicians with the development of clinically relevant research projects.
- Performs other essential functions.
Requirements: Employer will accept a minimum of master’s degree or foreign equivalent in biomechanics, exercise physiology, exercise science, neuroscience, kinesiology, movement science or related and 6 months of experience in a clinical motion analysis laboratory. Qualifying experience may be acquired during academic studies. Experience should include 6 months in each of the following:
- Experience with collecting and processing 3d motion capture data.
- Experience in data analysis.
- Experience with basic statistical analysis.
- Experience with the motion capture system hardware/software such as Vicon, Qualysis, Xsen or similar
- Experience with EMG systems such as Delsys, Noraxon or similar.
- Experience with clinical database systems.
- Experience with the following programming languages such as Matlab and Python.
