We’re searching for a Captain of Security Officers, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will coordinate and schedule all Houston Police Department Officers working security at Hospital in their extra employment (off-duty hours) and serve as a liaison with the administration of the Houston Police Department (HPD).

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises and motivates Security Services staff. Works with the Manager of Security Services on an on-going basis to motivate the officers to perform their tasks with excellence and at a level of service that will meet the goals and expectations of the Hospital Administration.  
  • Conducts recruiting activities and pre-employment screenings of prospective Houston Police Officers for Hospital employment by interviewing, in conjunction with Security Operations Manager and HPD personnel who are applying for off-duty positions at Hospital.  
  • Conducts, attends, and oversees staff meetings as necessary with the Hospital Security Services Management Team and Houston Police Department Supervisors. Coordinates training, i.e., orientation, PC computer, software, and other necessary training as coordinated with Security Services leadership team as well as other Houston Police Department Officers.  
  • Remains on-call and available on an as needed basis for emergencies, emergency personnel needs, scheduling, and policy questions and procedures, etc., when not on campus at Hospital.  
  • Maintains daily a schedule for all Houston Police Officers, ensuring full coverage, being aware of special events requiring additional security, and ensuring that they are in compliance with all Houston Police Department requirements for extra employment.

 

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

 

Skills & Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or GED required.
  • TDR – Texas driver's license required within 90 days of entering the role.  
  • LCSO – Commissioned Security Officer with Texas Department of Public Safety – Private Security Board – acquired within 90 days of entering the role required, or Teas Peace Officer with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement required
  • CHSS – Certification for Healthcare Security Supervisor with IAHSS – International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety preferred 
  • 10 years’ experience in security, law enforcement, or military required
  • 10 years’ experience with service in both uniformed and non-uniformed (investigations) divisions preferred.
