We’re searching for a Clinical Staff Development Specialist, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas and among the best in the nation. In this position, enhances staff practice through learning, change, professional role competence, and growth to support optimal patient care and population health. This role ensures the effective and efficient implementation and continuous improvement of six key Nursing Professional Development (NPD) processes: onboarding, competency management, role development, education, collaborative partnerships, and inquiry. Aligned with NPD scope and standards, the Specialist designs and refines frameworks for managing these processes at the campus, integrates system-wide initiatives and business plans into campus practice, and fosters collaboration with the NPD Department. The role also advocates for NPD as a nursing specialty.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensures general campus orientation content and processes align with policies and procedures, campus practices and guidelines, and regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Informs the design, implementation, and evaluation of a cost-effective campus orientation process for new hires in collaboration with campus leadership, NPD, and Human Resources.
  • Coordinates and/or supports general campus-based orientation needs.
  • Acts as a role model in building supportive and collaborative work relationships with new employees and students, when applicable.
  • Provides consultation for department-based orientation documentation creation and modification to meet the role-specific competency needs of staff.
  • Provides consultation for orientation process and orientee action planning.
  • Facilitates the onboarding and orientation process for campus educators in collaboration with the educator’s leadership team, including facilitating appropriate access to the organization’s systems, creating and maintaining orientation schedules, selecting preceptors, validating competencies, assessing and communicating orientee’s progress at a set cadence, identifying and addressing problematic trends, and documenting orientation records.
  • Supports orientation record-keeping for the campus.
  • Plans, designs, coordinates, conducts and evaluates required training to close performance gaps in knowledge and skills.
  • Plans, designs, develops, coordinates, and implements a plan for advancing competence of staff on all shifts that results in improved performance.
  • Provides consultation to educators and leaders to identify new, changing, problematic, and high-risk/low volume/time sensitive skill validation processes, as needed.
  • Integrates organizational and professional standards, evidence-based practice, and research findings into key processes.
  • Collaborates with operational leadership and other departments to facilitate high-quality, cost-effective patient care and partners with clinicians to integrate evidence in clinical decision-making.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing or master's degree Healthcare, Education or Clinical field or Ph.D. Healthcare, Education or Clinical field required
  • RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
  • BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association required
  • NPD - Nursing Professional Dev by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) preferred
  • 3 years' experience providing clinical education for multiple units or departments
