Beyond Pediatrics: Caring for Adults at Texas Children’s

In the past, caring for adult patients in children’s hospitals wasn’t common. However, pediatrics is changing rapidly. Thanks to advancements in medicine, many patients with once-terminal childhood illnesses are living active lives well into adulthood.  Plus, we now know just how important maternal health and family-centered care are for the overall well-being of children.

Texas Children’s is leading the charge in this transformation, branching out beyond children’s health. This shift is opening all sorts of exciting non-pediatric career opportunities in our hospital.

Keep reading to learn about the amazing work our healthcare pros are doing with adult patients at Texas Children’s—Texas’ top-ranked children’s hospital. Explore careers in our Adult Congenital Heart Program, Pavilion for Women and Employee Medical Clinic.

Care for Life: Adult Congenital Heart Program

At Texas Children’s Hospital, we support kids born with congenital heart disease (CHD) as they grow up and become adults. As home to the nation’s #1 pediatric heart center, we’re accredited by the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and take pride in being the first children’s hospital to have a dedicated floor just for our Adult Congenital Heart Program patients. We provide the same high-quality heart care patients receive as children.

Our program’s success comes from our specialized team, who excel in both pediatric and adult cardiac care. Texas Children’s treats more patients than any other children’s hospital in Texas, so we have a wide range of experience treating different conditions. Joining our team means you’ll be at the forefront of cardiac care, working with advanced technology in a thoughtfully designed facility. Our “Care for Life” approach ensures individuals with CHD receive seamless care throughout their lives.

Embracing Women at Every Stage: Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women

Our Pavilion for Women cares for women and children from preconception to long after childbirth. Specializing in obstetrics, gynecology, and fetal intervention, we understand the vital role mothers play in enhancing children’s health.

Since we started over a decade ago, our Pavilion for Women has grown significantly. A recent expansion added more space for inpatient beds and made accessing our outpatient clinics easier. Our specialties include obstetrics and gynecology, pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery, menopause treatment, maternal-fetal medicine, the Texas Children’s Fetal Center, reproductive psychiatry, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, and minimally invasive gynecology surgery.

Our professionals in the Pavilion for Women have state-of-the-art technology and specialized staff to provide optimal care in any situation. Collaboration and learning are key, ensuring the well-being of mothers and infants and providing holistic health care for women throughout their lives.

Our Employee Well-Being team, which includes our on-site clinic and employee health services, takes care of our own, boosting employee wellness and easing the financial burden of medical costs for our One Amazing Team.

They offer full-service primary care, acute visits, preventive care, wellness consultations, and an advanced electronic medical record system to maintain confidentiality. The EMC, which reopened in April 2024, is clean, spacious, organized and convenient for our employees.
