We’re searching for a Director of Nursing Excellence and Inquiry, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will be responsible for participating in strategic and operational leadership to support the advancement of nursing in the domains of clinical practice, professional development and education, nursing quality, and nursing research. The Director is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and initiatives in support of the domains. Collaboration with multiple Interprofessional teams and leaders is key to drive success.

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborates with senior leadership to identify and develop organizational goals and objectives. Provides leadership in developing and communicating short- and long-term departmental strategic plans and goals to team leaders and team members to secure buy-in. Supports and acts as a resource for other nursing leaders and ensures high visibility of self and team members in clinical settings to provide support to units and departments. 
  • Develops and directs the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, performance standards and initiatives. Facilitates the integration of professional nursing concepts (i.e. Magnet National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) and standards of practice into nursing programs and initiatives).  
  • Leads and evaluates highly complex projects and provides technical expertise on programs, processes and best Clinical Practice: Supports the advancement of clinical programs and services to a level that exceeds regional, national, and best clinical practices in the following domains: 
    • Clinical Practice: Supports the advancement of clinical programs and services to a level that exceeds regional, national and international standards by advancing and promoting evidence-based practice at the bedside. Actively partners with key stakeholders to set the standard of nursing practice at Texas Children’s. 
    • Professional Development & Education: Responsible to advance practice through continuous development of nurses guided by the Association of Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) scope and standards of practice competency guidelines with the implementation and evaluation of novel adult learning principles.  
    • Nursing Quality: Responsible for coordinating nursing quality and safety initiatives through collaboration with the office of quality and safety, chief quality officers and regulatory compliance leaders. Ensures focused interventions to promote nursing sensitive outcomes by identifying trends across the department of nursing, coordinating action plans, and driving accountability through measurement. 
    • Nursing Research: Responsible for the development of nursing inquiry and research activities across the organization to promote knowledge development and translational science. Collaborates with TCH research initiatives to ensure support.  
  • Manages communications to the organization on related strategies, projects, and initiatives. Maintains effective working relationships with peers across the organization. Serves as a champion of enterprise-wide culture, influencing culture change to support operational objectives. Leads the development of a culture of innovation and inquiry through spreading and sustaining evidence-based practice and leadership. 
  • Assumes primary fiscal responsibility for the department, developing and monitoring budgets for all related cost centers to meet or exceed established financial targets. Ensures a high-level of fiscal responsibility and is responsible for financial planning and management. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with medical leadership, direct reports and appropriate interdepartmental liaisons to ensure the achievement of identified goals. 

Requirements:

  • Required bachelor's degree Nursing And master's degree Nursing, Business, or healthcare related field 
  • Preferred Doctorate Nursing, Business, or healthcare related field 
  • Required RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact 
  • Required 5 years Nursing experience, including three years of management/leadership experience 
  • Preferred Magnet program and nursing research experience highly preferred
