We are searching for an Adult Congenital Heart Disease Registered Nurse – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide nursing care to patients in an Acuity-Adaptable Unit with care needs ranging from ICU to Acute Care.  Working in an Acuity-Adaptable Patient Care Model will afford you with the unique opportunity to provide continuity care to adult patients with complex congenital heart disease of various acuity levels from admission to discharge in the same unit with the same team.  

Patients with congenital heart disease need life-long cardiac care from pediatrics to adulthood.  Come be a part of their journey as a member of this specialized care team.  The learning opportunities are endless beginning with training on a variety of Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD’s), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT), hemodynamic monitoring, STEMI, stroke response, and pulmonary embolisms.

Qualifications:
•   Bachelor's degree in nursing an associate’s degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required
•   Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and current BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required
•   1 year of professional nursing experience required
•   Experience preferred in ICU, Intermediate (IMU/Stepdown)
•   2 years RN experience preferred
•   The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills, good time and resource management skills, flexibility, strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of unit-specific equipment, and knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, and interdisciplinary collaboration

Responsibilities:
•   Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
•   Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, and detects changes in patient status
•   Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient’s condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record
•   Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record
•   Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate
•   Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching
•   Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members
•   Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner
•   Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance
•   Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives
