We are searching for an Optometry Technician-- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will assist the Optometrist with departmental operations and technical support in the provision of coordinated patient-centered care.

Qualifications:

Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required for all employees at Texas Children’s, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

High school diploma or GED required
BLS from the American Heart Association required
1-year experience caring for and treating optometry patients in an ophthalmology clinic or optometry office required

Responsibilities:

Performs preliminary measurements and screening exams on both pediatric and adult optometry patients
Performs visual acuity, color vision testing, lensometry, exophthalmometry, Amsler grid, Schirmer test, pupil evaluation, anterior chamber depth assessment, stereo testing, ocular motility on extraocular muscle actions, strabismus, amblyopia, and assessment methods on children and adults
Obtains and departments ophthalmic history from patient, parent or guardian including but not limited to, presenting complaint, past ocular history, family history, systemic illness, medications, allergies and drug reactions, review of systems, social history, and developmental history
Provides fitting services for eyeglasses and all related education needed
Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members
Provides general assistance and customer service to all patients/families and schedules appointments
Ensure safekeeping of the Change Fund for Optometry on a daily basis
Transacts change fund currency exchanges via Treasury Services, bank or armored courier, as approved in advance by Treasury Services
