We are searching for a Physician Assistant or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care with their RNFA who is motivated to work in an exciting pediatric setting!
In this position, you will work under a delineation of clinical privileges and works collaboratively with other members of the health care team, including the attending physicians, resident physicians, and fellow physicians to provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the PA assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures.
In this position, the Advanced Practice Provider will have a focus in Trauma and Neurosurgery with potential for cross coverage of other surgical services. This team works a rotating schedule with 12 hour shifts which include days, nights and weekends. The Surgical Hospitalist handles a wide variety of patients collaborating regularly with other specialty groups including; plastics, general, orthopedics, urology and ENT providing services 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. This position includes inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations, operating room First-Assist, and perioperative coverage.
• Daily uses advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients' caseload. Obtains a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history of patients, as documented in the patient’s chart. Assesses the patient’s physical status through the physical examination, as documented in the patient’s chart. Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings, as documented in the patient’s chart. Performs or recommends age-appropriate health screening procedures, as documented in the patient’s chart. Provides health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages, as documented in the patient’s chart. Performs and evaluates diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests, as documents in the patient’s chart. Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians, as demonstrated in the written documentation. Formulates a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals and documents the plan in the patient’s chart. Evaluates responses to interventions and modifies the plan of care, as demonstrated by written documentation. Accurately presents and documents the database, impression, and plan of care on all patients, as demonstrated in the written documentation. Writes accurate, legible orders that are co-signed by a physician as appropriate, as demonstrated in the patient’s chart.
• Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers. Collaborates effectively with other members of the health care disciplines to provide comprehensive care to patients. Utilizes effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patient and/or family and collaborates with them in developing the care plan. Requests consultation and/or initiates referral for specialized care as appropriate. Communicates with health care team members the comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care. Communicates positively and appropriately with colleagues to work effectively as a team.
• Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals. Identifies, and documents patient/family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems on all patients. Assesses and documents impediments to patient/family learning and formulates plans to overcome them as needed. Provides appropriate education to patients and families as determined by learning needs, readiness to learn and level of understanding. Serves as a preceptor to graduate students and other practitioners to provide support and clinical expertise when assigned. Provides at least one (1) educational opportunity to health care team annually.
• Consistently applies new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice. Communicates research findings to other health care professionals as observed by evaluation of written/oral reports. Integrates research findings into advanced nursing practice as observed by evaluation of written/oral reports. Collaborates in the development of medical research protocols to delineate nursing care requirements. Collaborates with nursing colleagues in the initiation, development, and implementation of nursing research studies. Serves as a resource for interdisciplinary research and incorporates concepts from health care research into clinical applications.
• Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills. Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature and attending at least 2 staff development and continuing education programs annually. Documents number of hours spent annually on professional development on the SDR; attends at least 11 hours plus all mandatory in-services for advanced practice nurses. Participates in department and hospital committees which promote quality nursing care as assigned. Attends NP meetings or notifies supervisor to be excused. Maintains membership in appropriate professional organizations.
• Demonstrates NP role behaviors consistent with the development advanced nursing practice. Practices independently or interdependently in the NP role. Develops and updates NP protocols specific to the pediatric specialty. Participates in the ongoing development, review, and evaluation of the NP role.
