We’re hunting for a ECLS Specialist (RN) in our ECMO services unit, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you will provide ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) support, in an age appropriate manner in patients ranging from neonates to adults. Think you’ve got what it takes?
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Performs direct patient care by implementing, operating and managing ECMO/VAD system.
Sets up support system according to case preferences and age appropriateness 100% of the time.
Completes the pre-pump checklist prior to the start of ECMO 100% of the time.
Performs other patient care and related activities within the scope of their training and responsibilities.
Ensures that pump team supplies and equipment are readily available at all times.
Performs cleaning and disinfecting of equipment that has been used and returned to the proper storage area.
Reports malfunctioning equipment to Biomed or the company for repair. Retrieves replacement equipment if necessary.
Completes Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) for all analyzers (Medtronic ACT Plus).
Performs accurately, the QC of all analyzers on a daily basis as outlined in the policy and procedure.
Accurately documents the results of QC on a daily basis as outlined in the policy and procedure.
Performs appropriate corrective actions for all failed QC results.
In-depth knowledge of the cardiopulmonary system as it relates to ECMO support in the pediatric/infant/adult population.
Must be an effective problem solver, possess positive verbal and written communication skills and willing to take call.
Skills & Requirements
Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an Associate's Degree in Nursing or an associate’s degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license, or a Technical Diploma in Nursing Required.
OR Must be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN. Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurses Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure
2 years Neonatal or pediatric critical care experience
