We are searching for a Perioperative Care Technician -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will assist the perioperative team in the acquisition, preparation, and application of supplies, instrumentation, and equipment necessary to perform perioperative procedures.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures the availability of age-appropriate surgical supplies, equipment, and instrumentation. Obtains daily room assignments after the report. Informs the surgical team that he/she will be the assigned PCT after assignments are made. Periodically checks with the circulating nurse during the procedure for any needs. Retrieves recovery room cribs/beds outside the OR room for each patient before the patient is transported to the monitored unit and assists with transport.

Demonstrates aseptic and sterile technique for all supplies, instrumentation, and equipment according to AORN Standards of Practice and OSHA guidelines. Assists when needed with assembling and opening supplies for surgical procedures, setting up EKG leads, pulse oximeter, and NIBP cuffs on the OR bed. Performs sanitation duties between procedures after patient transport to PACU or other recovery areas and the completion of the day.

Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and supplies. Inventories assigned rooms for equipment as designated by the room closure list at the beginning of the shift and at the end of the day (after terminal cleaning is completed). Reports discrepancies to circulator/charge nurse for replacement equipment. Assists circulator with reporting malfunctioning equipment by removing equipment from the room, completing the Biomed repair form, and signing in the repair book located at the control desk. Informs the clerical secretary to call Biomed/Building and Grounds to pick up the item for repair.

Completes other departmental surgical service duties as assigned by the Manager/Service Coordinator. Assists in transporting patients as needed. Transports body to the morgue (obtains stretcher, signs in the body in morgue, copies medical record as needed). Serves as a preceptor to new employees. Assists in completing orientation forms, skills lists, etc., by designated time frame.

Skills & Requirements

Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

Required H.S. Diploma or GED

Required 1 year Healthcare experience
