Summary:

We are searching for an Industrial Hygienist – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll ensure a safe environment for employees, patients, visitors, and contractors through a comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety program. The ideal candidate will have a broad safety background, with an emphasis on safety and industrial hygiene in hospital, research and/or clinical laboratory settings.

Minimum Requirements:
Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, The Joint Commission, and NFPA requirements associated with Hospital’s activities is required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, or similar field is required
  • 3 years related experience is required
  • Hospital Industrial Hygiene experience strongly preferred
  • Must have a Class C Driver’s License with good driving record.

Responsibilities:

  • Recognize, evaluate, and mitigate hazards in hospital, outpatient clinic, and laboratory settings.
  • Fire and Life Safety – 
    • Conduct assessments for fire and life safety code compliance.
    • Plan, schedule, and execute fire drills. 
  • Industrial Hygiene – 
    • Maintain the industrial hygiene monitoring program for the assigned areas.
    • Conduct ergonomic assessments.
  • Laboratory Safety –
    • Conduct laboratory safety audits.
    • Assist with the chemical fume hood and biological safety cabinet certification and maintenance program.
  • Environmental protection –
    • Classify and profile hazardous waste.
    • Assist with the submission of required regulatory reports.
  • Emergency response – 
    • Serve on the Hospital’s Decontamination Team.
    • Initiate or assist in chemical spill response, as needed.
  • Serve on a 24/7 on-call rotation every sixth or seventh week. Occasional onsite afterhours response will be required. 
  • Infrequent travel to offsite locations will be required, primarily using a company vehicle.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant standards from OSHA, EPA, The Joint Commission and other regulatory and governmental agencies regarding worker safety, hazardous chemical management, and environment of care standards.
