Summary:

We are searching for a Medical Assistant II for Clinical Research -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide patient care and excellent customer service in the Texas Children's healthcare setting.

 

Qualifications:

Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

  • Required Licenses/Certifications:

CCMA -Cert-Cert Clinical MA -CCMA by the National Health Career Association, CMA-AAM -Cert-Cert Medical Assistant by the American Association of Medical Assistants,

CMA-C -Clinical Medical Assistant Certification by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA),  EMT -Emergency Medical Techn by the Texas Department of State Health Services,   EMT-A -Advanced EMT by the Texas Department of State Health Services,

LIC PAR -Lic-Paramedic by the Texas Department of State Health Services,

NCMA -National Cert Med Assistant by the National Center for Competency Testing,  NRCMA -Nat Reg Cert Med Assistant by the National Association of Health Professionals, RMA-AAH : American Allied Health by the American Allied Health, RMA-AAMP : American Association of Medical Personnel by the American Association of Medical Personnel, RMA-AMT : American Medical Technologist by the American Medical Technologist, RMA-ARMA : American Registry of Medical Assistants by the American Registry of Medical Assistants.

 

  • 2 years related experience.
  • Preferred experience in a healthcare setting.
  • College degree preferred.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills, communication, and customer service skills. Welcomes and interacts with all patients, families, and visitors in a professional, timely, age appropriate, and culturally sensitive manner. Responds to customer questions with prompt information and/or service related to appointment status, wait time, or unanticipated problems.
  • Facilitates the appointment check-in procedure. Performs patient registration procedures per clinic process. Ensures that all necessary patient forms are provided and filled out for the clinic visit.
  • Collaborates with clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow. Prioritizes patients to be roomed based on appointment and arrival times and other clinic procedure. Notifies provider of the arrival of the first clinic session patient once patient is roomed.
  • Provides high quality, cost-effective patient care in collaboration with clinicians and in conjunction with the patient/family. Assists in the collection and documentation of patient/family data which included biophysical and psychosocial information according to clinic scope. Reports abnormal data/data out of range to RN or provider. May administers inhalation, topical and unit dose oral or injectable medications as directed by physician, and per clinic policy.
  • May collect specimens and performs Point of Care Testing (not relevant for Virtual setting roles). Performs only those tests that are authorized by the licensed professional and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience, and technical abilities. Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Completes check out for patients and families. Reviews order for completeness, clinical indication and signature. Enters them into order-entry system. Ensures that requisitions have necessary clinical, demographic, billing and payor information.
  • Facilitates patient flow as the scheduling master for the clinic. Monitors patient flow and fills in or assigns staff as necessary to avoid bottleneck and assure minimal patient wait and alone time. Monitors provider schedules and makes necessary changes to the master schedule (blocking for vacation, full shifts of scheduled sessions) and coordinates contact with patients to change their appointments.
