We are searching for a Clinical Informatics Specialist II -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will utilize the knowledge and skills of clinical practice to lead the optimal design, development, evaluation, and support of clinical technology solutions utilized by care providers, ensuring that systems are consistent with professional standards of practice.  Integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge into clinical practice improvements.

Responsibilities :

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Participates in the planning and strategic development of clinical systems. Coordinates the evaluation, selection, planning, development, and implementation of clinical systems. Establishes the need for new systems or updates to existing systems to support and enhance clinical practice and develops specifications that will support the design and implementation across the organization.
  • Translates end user needs into system optimizations. Serves as a resource for clinical staff regarding clinical information systems. Collaborates with clinical staff to optimize systems through ongoing enhancements, partnership with training teams to identify and resolve educational gaps, provision of information related to quality outcomes, and provides ongoing support to achieve organizational goals.
  • Provides ongoing management of clinical informatics systems. Acts as a liaison between clinicians and the Information Services and collaborates to update the clinical information systems, troubleshoot hardware/software problems, and coordinate downtime events. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and improve efficiencies associated with clinical systems and related workflows.
  • Supports the improvement of clinical outcomes and clinician efficiency. Coordinates performance improvement, quality, and patient safety initiatives as related to clinical practice and information systems. Designs and formulates reports for the trending, tracking, and analysis of clinical systems data.
  • Management of complex simultaneous projects. Collaborates and communicates with the multidisciplinary team and key stakeholders to formulate and execute clinical technology projects within defined parameters and deadlines. Plays an active role as a project team member and may assume a leadership role in project initiatives.


  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science, business administration, healthcare administration, nursing or another related field
  • Licenses/Certifications: RN - Lic-Registered Nurses by the Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse Licensure Compact, NP - Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, PNP-BC - Cert-Pediatric Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, NNP - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, FNP - Cert-Family Nurse Practitioner by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas, CP - Lic- Respiratory Care – RCP by the Texas Department of State Health Services, OT - Occupational Therapist by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners, PT - Physical Therapist by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners, RPH – Pharmacist by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Preferred EPIC certification and proficiency and a Certification in Informatics
  • Required 5 years’ experience in hospital information systems selection, implementation, and support, or specific clinical experience in nursing, respiratory care, occupational/physical therapy, or pharmacy and 1 year experience in an informatics job role. Preferred 3 years information systems related experience such as superuser, information systems-related committees, or go-live support for information systems
