We are searching for a Birth Registrar -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will obtain state-required birth registration information for every live birth, along with a variety of routine Health Information Management Department technical processing functions to include: front desk coverage, scanning, record keeping, release of information, and filing. This role places emphasis upon coordination and preparation of birth certificates.

Responsibilities :

Job Duties

  • Provides mothers with Mother’s Worksheet for birth certificate completion
  • Informs eligible parents of Texas laws and regulations regarding Acknowledgement of Paternity
  • Ensures that birth certificates are filed with the state of Texas
  • Ensures the completion of Acknowledgement of Paternity
  • Maintain accurate record keeping ensuring compliance with the state of Texas laws and regulations
  • Obtains completed ImmTrac (Texas Immunization) Registration Form and Social Security Form from parent
  • Retrieves all medical records needed to complete ROI request
  • Greets all customers utilizing appropriate customer service skills


Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any booster dose(s) of the COVID-19 vaccine recommended by the Centers for Disease Control when eligible, is required for all employees at Texas Children’s, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption



  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • AOP certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer (issued by Attorney General of Texas)
  • RHIA or RHIT certification from the American Health Information Management Association preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in records management, medical records, or birth registry required
  • Knowledge of ICD9, rCDIO, and CPT coding classification systems and guidelines
  • Knowledgeable in CMS, Texas Medicaid, and other regulatory agency rules and regulations related to Health Information Management
